The planned planting area in the 2025 season is about 43,670 hectares, with the specific distribution of 22,330 hectares in northern Xinjiang, 11,330 hectares in southern Xinjiang, 9,330 hectares in Inner Mongolia and 700 hectares in Gansu and Ningxia. The transplanting work will be completed by the end of May, but the transplanting area will be affected due to extreme weather such as strong wind and hail. It is estimated that 5.1 million tons of tomatoes will be processed. Only 82 factories are expected to operate this season, 24 fewer than the crops in 2024, which is equivalent to the 2020 level. Therefore, the daily production capacity is 214,000 tons, which is 60,000 tons (-22%) less than that in 2024. It is estimated that the price of fresh tomatoes is $65 per ton, which is $11 (-15%) lower than last year. However, as the fresh quantity is significantly reduced compared with last year, the price may rise. China has accelerated the export of tomato sauce and accelerated the reduction of stocks. From January to April 2025, the total export volume of bulk and repackaged tomato products (HS code 200290) was 420,000 tons, up 5% year-on-year (compared with 2024).
