The export volume of Chilean cherries in the new season is expected to surge by 59%, with a huge investment of 63.18 million. The growth of new planting area will drive the Chilean cherry production to surge again this season.
At the recent Cherry Blossom celebration held by Chilean Cherry Committee, the industry organization released the latest forecast that the export volume of Chilean cherries will reach a record 657,935 tons or 131.6 million boxes (5 kg boxes) in 2024/25, a huge increase of 59% compared with last season. Claudia Soler, executive director of the Committee, said that the expectation was calculated based on the data provided by the Committee members (collected between September 23rd and October 1st), and may change further with the start of the new season. "Last season was one of the most complicated seasons experienced by the industry in terms of climate, which eventually led to the same export volume as the previous season. This season, the agricultural climate conditions are good, so we expect to achieve not only the growth that we failed to achieve last season, but also the expected growth this season, "Soler said. The planting area of Chilean cherry has experienced a large-scale expansion, and the peak of planting appeared between 2019 and 2021. Therefore, the industry expects that the output will continue to increase substantially in the three quarters of 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26. In terms of varieties, the output of Santina increased most significantly compared with last season, reaching 121%, and there will be 38.3 million cases; Lapins will increase by 29% to 45.7 million cases; Regina will increase by 53% to 24.3 million cases; The remaining varieties will make up the remaining 23.2 million boxes.
China will remain the main export market for Chilean cherries, but Soler said that the industry will continue to develop diversified exports and expand other markets in and outside Asia. The Committee has reserved a budget of more than 9 million dollars (about 63.18 million yuan) for this year's marketing, an increase of 118% compared with last quarter. "We firmly believe that this year is the best time to launch a strong publicity campaign, which will encourage existing consumers to increase their purchases and attract more new consumers. The promotion will focus on China, the United States and South Korea. If logistics conditions permit, we will invest more resources in India and start marketing in Brazil, "Soler said.
